Land’s End Shirt, Vintage Vest, H&M Leggings, Forever 21 Earrings, UGG Australia Boots

Lately, I’ve been opting for simpler outfits in neutral shades of black, white and gray. I wore this a week or so back on an especially busy day when I craved a low-maintenance outfit. I kept it polished by heading in a more minimalist direction, staying with clean lines and varying textures.

Room Update

modern room

Ever since I became obsessed with this chair, I’ve been thinking a lot about interior design. (It’s dawned upon me that I never posted final pictures of my office – the fabric for my other bulletin board was backordered and I haven’t gotten around to finishing it, but I promise pictures will be here within the year.) I’ve always loved the clean, modern design aesthetic, and based on this chair and a few other recent finds, I thought I’d make an inspiration board for a room redo. I don’t see any renovations in the near future for me, but next chance I get, I’ll be doing something along these lines.

Cozy Cowl

H&M Dress, Forever 21 Belt, DSW Boots, Coldwater Creek Bracelet (old), Vintage Ring

I think I’ve officially reached my limit on cowl necks with this dress. It’s my third dress with one and fifth overall, but for some reason it doesn’t feel like that many. There’s something about them that I just love – they look put together in a slightly messy, layered way, while being exceptionally warm and season-appropriate (kind of like a built-in scarf). That leads me to something else special about them: you really can only wear them in the fall and winter months. So I think I’ll enjoy them while I can, and ignore the fact that I may be developing a problem.

Salted Caramel Cupcakes

cupcake 1

Over the weekend, I decided to whip up a quick batch of cupcakes (possibly my favorite thing to make in the kitchen). One of my most recent flavor obsessions is salted caramel, probably sparked by the delicious salted caramel cupcakes from a local bakery, and the new seasonal latte found at Starbucks. I thought I’d make a batch of salted caramel cupcakes myself and use my new silicone cupcake wrappers (found in various colors, shapes and sizes here) too. I used this simple cupcake recipe and made some caramel icing (my recipe follows) to top them off. The result? A rich, sweet, buttery indulgence.

Caramel Icing

½ cup butter, softened

2 cups confectioner’s sugar

3 – 4 Tbsp caramel sauce, to taste (use a thicker, dessert sauce/ice cream topping kind, usually in a jar instead of a bottle)

Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat butter until soft. Beat in confectioner’s sugar, 1/2 cup at a time. Mix in caramel sauce until desired consistency and taste.

Frosts about 12 cupcakes. Top cupcakes with sea salt.

Trend Spotting: All That Glitters

metallic dresses

If you have access to the internet, fashion magazines or any other style resource, then chances are you’ve noticed that metallics are popping up everywhere. Gold capped shoes, glittery belts and bags and sequined sheaths are suddenly gracing the pages of just about every magazine. They’re so prevalent that several reflective pieces have unintentionally made their way to the top of my wish list – all of these dresses are simultaneously party appropriate and casual (when paired with a jacket, of course).
