Vintage Feel

Forever 21 Top, Forever 21 Skirt, Born Shoes via DSW

Whenever I wear this outfit, it seems to generate a lot of compliments, from both friends and strangers alike (specifically a nice lady working at Sephora). There’s something I like about the almost southwestern feel of denim paired with a bold orange pattern. The faded shirt and worn-in oxfords gave it a bit of a vintage feel. This skirt is from last year and it continues to be a favorite – the cut is both flattering and comfortable, but sadly, I have a bit of trouble finding tops to pair with the rusty hue. Until I find a few more, I’m perfectly happy to keep wearing it with my chambray shirt.

Trend Spotting: Quirk Factor

quirk factor

This year, many designers embraced quirkiness. (We’re talking shoes with full facial profiles on the sides. These even feature a ponytail.) There were surrealist-inspired accessories and animal-sporting sweaters. As seen in this post, I’ve developed a new-found appreciation for the quirky (and animal-printed), so here’s my tribute to all things unusual in the fashion world.

Thanksgiving

thanksgivingturkey

Happy Thanksgiving! If you’re anything like me right now, you’ll understand that I don’t have much time to do a regular post, so I figured I’d take today as an opportunity to say just how thankful I am for everything in my life.

First of all, I’m thankful for all of my clothes and shoes. I know I’ll never think that I have enough, but people are continually amazed by the fact that I can go months without repeating an outfit. I’m thankful for all of my friends and family who make it worthwhile to wake up each morning, even on days I know will be tough. I’m thankful for the four-legged monsters who greet me when I get home, even though two of them (cats) try to bite me incessantly. I’m thankful for the fact that I can bake or cook whatever I want, whenever I want – it continues to be a shock to me that there really are so many people who don’t have enough to eat (reminding me to give to those who are less fortunate in any way I can). I’m thankful for laptops, iPhones and Google, as well as all other technology. I don’t remember my life without these things and I don’t really care to. And I’m thankful for all of you reading this now and following my blog. I started this over the summer, with no real expectations or a plan of any kind, and here all of you are (even if it’s not as many readers as other blogs may have). I’m so incredibly grateful for your support and kind comments, and I look forward to sharing more stylish tidbits from my life with you.

Have a happy and delicious Thanksgiving!

Inspiration: Minimalist

minimalist

Normally, when I think of fall (November in particular), I think of warm colors and rich textures. This year has been a bit different: thoughts of clean lines and contrasting black and white have been swirling through my head (see this post). Something about the minimalist approach to things (clothes, décor) is clean, calming and refreshing, without sacrificing style – exactly the kind of break I think we all need about this time of year. Here are the simple pieces inspiring me at the moment.

Currently Obsessed With: Peplums

peplums

The peplum seems to have continually generated more popularity since its unofficial debut earlier this year. I’ve noticed dozens of pretty peplums all over the place: long sleeved, short sleeved, tank tops, blouses, jackets, dresses, even pants – the list goes on. I’ve compiled a few of my favorites, all sure to add a dash of flirty femininity to your closet.
