Wanted: Colorblocked Cardigan

colorblocked cardigan

I’m not exactly sure why, but I’ve never been too big on cardigans. The other day, though, when I was attempting to put together an outfit, I realized that certain pieces in my closet could get a lot more wear if I had a cardigan or two to pair them with. That began my search for the perfect cardigan. After some looking, I settled on this one: navy is classic, and mint pairs with just about everything in my closet. The colorblocking is a fresh alternative to stripes or polka dots and avoids a pattern, allowing it to potentially pair with even more. This just may be the beginning of a full-fledged obsession with cardigans – watch out.

Trend Spotting: Mint

The unofficial color of Spring 2013 is mint, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ve been a huge fan of the pastel green since last year (and have been searching for the perfect pair of mint green jeans since, which I finally purchased here). It’s easier to find this year, even in varying shades of minty green and minty blue, which makes me want to snatch it up in the form of tops, dresses, shoes, purses – just about anything I can find (plus, wouldn’t it be cool to have a totally monochromatic outfit?)! Here are some items I’d gladly add to my closet.

Spring Stripes

Forever 21 Dress, H&M Sweater, Aerosoles Sandals (old), Kohl’s ring (old, similar here), Kate Spade Bracelet (similar here and here)

The moment I saw this dress online, I fell in love. It reminds me of lots of things Kate Spade has sold that I’m not able to afford, so when I saw it carried a Forever 21 price tag, I snatched it up. The fabric is thick and high-quality, which was a nice surprise. The fit is also surprisingly comfortable and flattering. I love stripes, but these bold, graphic, brightly colored ones have taken that love to a new level.

Currently Obsessed With: Ballet Flats

ballet flats

Striped/Black and White/Leopard/Daisies/Perforated/Floral/Spotted/Mint/Coral with Gold Cap/Cream with Yellow Cap/Coral Slippers/Gold Bands

One item I don’t often wear is ballet flats. It’s not that I don’t like them – I often run across lots of cute pairs – it’s just that I can never find an appropriate time to wear them. In the fall and winter, it’s too cold and I’m most likely too busy obsessing over boots, and as soon as the weather gets warm I’m in sandals and flip-flops until September. But, after recently having several instances of not having the right shoes to go with an outfit, it’s dawned on me that it’s time to invest in a reliable pair of flats (I have my eye on these). Thus started a ballet flat craze (evidence above).
