Double Take

Outfit One: Target Dress/Madewell Top/Forever 21 Flats/Madewell Necklace

Outfit Two: Target Dress/J. Crew Necklace/Michael Antonio Pumps/Kate Spade Clutch

Welcome to a new segment on sarah kate style: Double Take. I’ll start with a basic (or not-so-basic) piece, and show you two ways to style it – casual (fit for a day out museum hopping, a low-key party, the like) and chic (for dinner out and formal events).

First up is the LBD – just about the most classic piece you can buy next to a good pair of black pumps, the little black dress can take you just about anywhere. While it’s generally associated with black tie occasions, if the dress is right, you can pair it with more laid-back pieces for a casual but still put-together look. Just think of it as a body suit with a skirt. This one also features side cutouts and a no-fuss fabric which give it a cool, slightly edgy vibe. For the first outfit, striped flats and a denim shirt tied at the waist make for a nautical inspired look. The bright colored, statement-making accessories in the second outfit make the look modern and graphic.

So I’m kind of obsessed with food. And cooking. If I’m not doing anything in particular, you can usually find me in the kitchen. While I love cooking old standbys and experimenting with new combinations, nothing excites me more than trying new recipes. Enter HonestlyYUM, from the creators of Honestly WTF: it’s basically your online guide to all things food. The DIYs make me want to throw a party, and the recipes make me want to spend the whole day in the kitchen. Even if you’re not the biggest chef, check out this site – you might be inspired to try your hand at whipping up something to eat.

Pants

Fact: I used to avoid harem pants like the plague. I had never seen a pair that didn’t look horrendously cheap, and so the thought of my ever wearing them never crossed my mind. That was, until, I ran across a navy blue pair (seen here), and I was hooked. They’re polished without being constricting, and stylish while still being insanely comfortable. I’ll definitely be buying these – recently I’ve been having a moment with tropical prints, and I can see them paired with a breezy linen crop top for a casual day out.

As a side note, I’d like to point out my newly updated ‘about’ page – it’s a little more aesthetically pleasing, and you can easily learn a little bit more about me. Enjoy!
