Valentino Resort 2014

valentino_1valentino_4valentino_5valentino_6 valentino_8 valentino_7 valentino_10 valentino_11

Hot pink cheetah print, neon camouflage and oversize anoraks – Valentino has made it all look chic. If you haven’t seen this collection yet, you’re missing out big time. It’s packed with lace, folksy florals and plenty of embroidery and beading. The pieces somehow get prettier and more sophisticated as they go on (view the slideshow for the full effect). Don’t miss the fantastic pleating and seaming, either – these pieces are perfect down to the stitch. The shoes are to die for, too, and each look is perfectly matched with a pair of sandals, flats, or boots. Summer 2013 hasn’t even ended yet, and I’m already looking forward to next year.

Double Take

doubletake_camojeans

Jeans

Casual: Top/Shoes/Cigar Ring/Snake Ring

Chic: Top/Shoes/Necklace

So I actually bought these pants. In my defense, they were (and still are) $20 on clearance and I was already ordering a few things from Urban Outfitters. And they got me free shipping. (I’ve since gotten them in the mail, and oh my goodness are they ever comfortable. Buy them.) In the days of trying them on repeatedly and staring at them for long periods of time (what? I totally don’t do that in my free time), I’ve compiled a mental list of things I could wear with them: a black peplum, a chambray shirt, a burgundy sweater (I didn’t include that because I don’t want to start posting fall stuff just quite yet) – basically anything neutral and relatively plain. I put together my two favorite looks, above. For the casual outfit, I added some burgundy slippers and statement rings for color variation and a little glitz. For the chic outfit, I decided a leather peplum feels a little dressier than your average poly-blend, added some seriously cool shoes and a bold-but-not-overpowering necklace. Which look do you prefer? How would you wear camo jeans? (If you have a pair, or anything in camouflage for that matter, I’d love to hear how you wear it!)

One Year

oneyear

Today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of sarah kate style (and the 150th post). Going into this one year ago, I had no idea what my blog would become. I certainly don’t have as many followers as other bloggers, but that’s fine. Maybe I will someday, and maybe I won’t – I don’t know the future of sarah kate style, and that’s okay with me. I love having this blog as a creative outlet, and I love meeting other bloggers. That has been such an amazing part of my experience blogging – meeting all kinds of people, reading their blogs, getting a glimpse into their life. I feel so lucky to be a part of it all.

I’ve discovered, though, that blogging isn’t always easy. It’s hard to find time, it’s hard to come up with new ideas, and it’s hard to keep writing when you know you’re just one of millions of other bloggers. The Internet itself can tear you a new one, like when my blog crashed back in January. But in the end, it’s rewarding – I’ve learned new things, discovered great stores, designers and blogs, and refined my own style. Looking back, I can see how I’ve grown and changed in the past year. I haven’t always been very personal on the blog, and I need to work on that. I am so appreciative of all of your support, whether you’ve been reading since last summer or you’re a new follower.

I am so excited for the future of this blog. I feel like it can only get better from here, and I’m looking forward to sharing many more outfits, ideas, collages and recipes with you – and if things work out according to plan, I may be sharing a huge renovation project (or two).

Blogging has been a fantastic experience, and I hope to spend many more years sharing my life with you. xx Sarah

Instagrammed Weekend

instagramweekend

I had a pretty fantastic weekend. Despite the fact that some things didn’t work out according to plan (namely the inclement weather postponing my trip to the museum until Sunday), everything turned out great in the end – fantastic food, lots of time with friends and family, a perfectly beautiful day for visiting a museum and its sculpture garden, and some pretty awesome presents. Granted, some of these Instagrams were taken today (my weekend kind of continued into today, with a snowball and some light shopping), but they all captured just how great my leisurely birthday weekend turned out to be. I’ll see you back here tomorrow, when sarah kate style turns one (!), along with a few surprises.

Life Lately

lifelately_vacation

{The weather couldn’t have been any nicer during my vacation last week}

Today is my birthday, which makes me super excited. I’ve always loved having a summer birthday (except for when I was in first grade and it meant I couldn’t bring cupcakes for my class to celebrate) – I feel like it gives me so many more options of ways to celebrate (like vacation or daytrips), plus the weather is almost guaranteed to be fantastic. I had a great time celebrating with a friend last night, and I’m headed to a museum and lunch out today (check my Instagram for updates). I hope you all have a great weekend!
