Things I Love: Cool Magazines

cool magazines

oh comely | Uppercase | Kinfolk | Sweet Paul | Cereal | Gather Journal | Oak: A Nordic Journal | Anthology | Trouvé

I somewhat recently became obsessed with Anthology magazine. You’ve almost definitely heard of it, and I remember a friend telling me about it years ago, but I only recently came across it again. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have picked up that my favorite (local) store is Trohv (in Baltimore, but they have a DC location too) – and of course, that’s where I found it. After pouring through it several dozen times, I knew I’d be a devout follower from now on, buying every issue the moment it came out.

Then, of course, because this is the kind of life I lead, I saw on their Instagram that this, 2015, is their last year. Just because. Needless to say I was crushed, my dreams of a thick magazine-filled world dashed. So I began hunting for similar magazines, and my search turned up some pretty great results. I went back to Trohv and grabbed a copy of Kinfolk, which I just adore, so I have pretty high hopes for the rest of them. But if you’re not yet reading Anthology or Kinfolk, I’d recommend you get on that!

I’d love to know – what magazines do you read?

Spring Picks

Spring fashion and I have a bit of a rocky relationship. I probably expect too much of it. When it comes to fall, I have a really clear vision of what I like to wear – slightly edgy, a palette of neutrals and a variety of textures (leather, faux fur, wool…). But spring – I feel like there are lots of routes to go. Preppy. Minimalistic. Bohemian. Little white dresses. And because I’ve never really taken the time to figure out what it is I like – because I’m spending all my time outside thawing from winter – my wardrobe tends to be a weird conglomeration of a bunch of stuff that at one point or another I decided I liked. And now I’m getting really excited about spring (I always do once Christmas is over) so I plan on taking advantage of the Zara sale to spruce up my wardrobe for the coming season. And I’m finally gaining a sense of what I like: patterns, a mix of brights, pastels, and black and white. And polka dots. I’m really feeling polka dots for spring.

Are you excited for spring yet? (Or is it just me? Probably.)

Also – you’ve probably noticed that sarah kate style has a brand new look – I’d love to hear what you think!

Studio Update

studio updateRemember how I said back here that I was working on renovating a little storage space into a studio? Well, I’m happy to report that the project is nearly finished. Unfortunately I don’t have any “before” shots to share – I know those are fun, but trust me, you don’t want to see where I started – but hopefully pictures of its current state will suffice 🙂 It (sadly) gets really really cold in there in the winter, so I haven’t spent too much time in the space recently (plus I’m trying to get back in the habit of working in my office…). Even so, just stepping in there makes me so, so happy. It’s still not totally done – as you’ll be able to tell, I’m still in need of some art/decorative elements, a rug, and a few bottles of Pellegrino, but I wasn’t expecting to have it all done at once. The design magazines I read always say that a space should evolve and be pieced together over time with things you love – so be on the lookout for another installment! I hope you enjoy.

Cowl Neck Sweater

sweater3

H&M sweater (similar style) | H&M jeans | H&M purse | H&M heels | Vintage ring | Nails Inc. polish in Trafalgar Square

So this is without a doubt my new favorite sweater (and I’ve pretty much been wearing it all holiday break). The collar is so thick that it’s like a built-in scarf (and you know how I feel about scarves), plus it’s gray, which has gained the title of my favorite color. And though I love this outfit, it only reminds me that perhaps I buy a few too many things from H&M…but I won’t apologize. Their stuff is cute and cheap, and what’s wrong with that?

Anyway, I’m very excited about the new year – how about you? I’m setting out to post on the blog as often as I possibly can. And I won’t (/can’t) promise lots of new exciting things like other bloggers, but I will say that I’ve got lots of new ideas – and I’m so excited to share them with you.
