Dress
Casual: Jacket // Necklace // Shoes // Purse
Chic: Blazer // Clutch // Earrings // Sandals

A patterned dress is without a doubt one of my closet essentials (I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot. But I mean it this time.). It’s probably the easiest thing you can wear. It’s a complete outfit in just one soft, comfortable piece, it doesn’t require a lot of accessorizing, if any, and – if the title of this post didn’t give you a clue – it works in lots of different situations, depending on how you style it. I love the idea of pairing this striped dress and a denim jacket (with rolled up sleeves) for a cool, monochromatic look. Sporty slip-ons make it work well for errands, casual weekend outings, and when the weather doesn’t permit sandals. And a simple black crossbody (my go-to type of bag) keeps hands free and goes with everything. But paired with a bright blazer, patterned clutch, and feminine accents like metallic sandals and tassel earrings, a striped dress becomes the perfect thing to wear to weekend brunch.

Do you love patterned dresses? What are your wardrobe essentials?

Casual: Top // Cuff // Bag // Skirt // Birkenstocks
Chic: Top // Earrings // Clutch // Skirt // Heels

I’m coming back to one of my old series, and kicking it off with two ways to style what’s become one of my spring/summer staples this year (aside from patterned pants) – a bright mini skirt. I have an aggressively yellow one from H&M that I completely adore (but sadly sold out), plus a kelly green and blue bubble skirt (steal of the century from Anthro) – I love pairing them both with simple tees, especially in white and gray, and my trusty Birkenstocks (can you tell it’s an addiction?) for an effortlessly polished but relaxed outfit. But they’re just as easy to dress up, with a flouncy top, streamlined heels and glitzy accessories. If you’re in need of a bright mini, I think this cute and simple jacquard number is pretty much perfect, plus it definitely won’t break the bank.

A striped top is a beautiful thing – it’s easy, effortless, perpetually chic, and it goes with just about everything. Right now I’m looking for a new one (my current option is better suited to colder months – but do you really need an excuse to buy a striped top?), and this one from Forever 21 fits the bill. It’s cheap, lightweight, and the back features a unique cutout. Since it’s so versatile, it can easily be dressed up or down. These jeans from H&M are quite possibly my favorite pants (I may or may not wear them 3+ times a week), and they’re made a little more polished with modern two-tone D’Orsay flats, a dainty necklace, and a cool mini backpack (I’m starting to develop a thing for chic backpacks). For a dressier look, this fluorescent midi skirt makes a fun statement (based on the price, the quality may be questionable, but it’s still a cool piece), while dainty black heels and a minimalist, feminine clutch help tone it down. A simple gold necklace is chic and pulls the look together.

Top
Casual: Pants/Pouch/Cuff/Sandals
Chic: Skirt/Ring/Earrings/Sandals

Florals and spring are pretty much synonymous. While a dainty pattern has its place, I love the idea of a bold, statement-making floral. This top from Zara is perfect – a loose, breezy fit, and a bold print in colors that don’t feel crazy or overly loud. I love the idea of pairing it with loose, tapered black pants and crisp white accessories for a modern, casual look – but it would look equally as nice with a soft white midi skirt, sparkly gold jewelry and cool leather sandals.

Skirt
Casual: Sweatshirt/Shoes/Sunglasses/Bag/Bracelet/Necklace
Chic: Top/Purse/Sandals/Necklace

In the past year, I’ve become pretty much obsessed with maxi skirts. They’re so comfortable, easy to wear, and work all year round. Since summer is quickly approaching, I went searching for a bright maxi skirt to wear through the season. One of the best parts of a maxi, especially one in a solid color, is that it’s incredibly versatile. The casual option, featuring a textured sweatshirt, simple slides, a cute bag and delicate jewelry, is perfect for running errands or going on a coffee run. The chic look is suited for low-key summer gatherings – the flounced sleeves keep the top from feeling too plain, while a shiny shoulder bag and minimalist gold accessories keep it polished and glamorous.
