Cowl Neck Sweater

sweater3

H&M sweater (similar style) | H&M jeans | H&M purse | H&M heels | Vintage ring | Nails Inc. polish in Trafalgar Square

So this is without a doubt my new favorite sweater (and I’ve pretty much been wearing it all holiday break). The collar is so thick that it’s like a built-in scarf (and you know how I feel about scarves), plus it’s gray, which has gained the title of my favorite color. And though I love this outfit, it only reminds me that perhaps I buy a few too many things from H&M…but I won’t apologize. Their stuff is cute and cheap, and what’s wrong with that?

Anyway, I’m very excited about the new year – how about you? I’m setting out to post on the blog as often as I possibly can. And I won’t (/can’t) promise lots of new exciting things like other bloggers, but I will say that I’ve got lots of new ideas – and I’m so excited to share them with you.

Little Black Dress (with sequins)

Altuzarra for Target dress | H&M Heels | Vintage Clutch | Vintage Ring | old sunglasses

I’m trying to do more outfit posts – and while I think (or at least hope) I’ll get better with time, starting out is kind of rough. Mostly because it’s super awkward to have random people walking by and staring at you. But no matter. This dress is one of my favorite purchases this fall. I wasn’t planning on getting it when I stopped by Target to shop the Altuzarra sale (or, rather, hunt down the embroidered crane sweater) – but I was smitten the instant I saw it. It has so many little details that make it totally perfect – a swiss dot pattern, tassels on the ends of the neck ties, gold sequins and pockets – yes, pockets. And, it’s seriously comfortable. Win-win.

Classic Stripes

Zara top, Forever 21 jacket, H&M jeans, BCBGeneration shoes, 3.1 Philip Lim for Target purse, Baublebar earrings (in tortoise here), Target sunglasses

This is actually what I wore on my flight back to the US – the most comfortable items of clothing I brought just so happened to look casually put-together. This top I picked up at Zara for the equivalent of about $17, and it’s so comfortable that I’ve been living in it since. It’s one of those pieces that makes me love summer fashion, and will make it harder to say goodbye to.

Neon Pants

pants1

H&M top (old, similar here), Peter Pilotto for Target pants (I also love these and these), L.L. Bean backpack (old, similar here), DSW Sandals (old, similar here).

I have a love-hate relationship with pants. I always find myself drawn to pairs with fun prints or interesting details, but I tend to prefer the comfort and ease of dressed and skirts. This pair, though, combines the best of both: they’re bright and unique while still being lightweight and extremely comfortable. They’ve been my go-to pants so far this summer – paired with a solid t-shirt, it’s a stylish and completely un-fussy look.

Floral Blazer

blazer1

Prabal Gurung for Target Blazer, H&M top (sold out, similar), New York and Company jeans, Neiman Marcus for Target clutch, Steve Madden sandals (similar), New York and Company aviators

I’ve come around on blazers in the last few years. I used to oppose the long, straight sleeves and sharp shoulders in fear that I’d look too…professional. I chalk my appreciation of blazers up to this one – I almost didn’t get it, thinking it was too weird of a combination of fun and serious. But the bright, graphic pattern sold me, and I’d say I made the right choice. With the sleeves rolled up, it’s one of my go-to summer pieces – it keeps an outfit polished but still playful, and adds a dose of color to an all-white ensemble.
