What I’d Wear When

what i'd wear when

Dress // Sandals // Ring 1, 2, 3, 4 (clockwise from top left) // Necklace // Purse

One of the things I love most about summer (and I know I’m not alone in this) is that there’s so much to do outside. Throw parties, go picnicking, exercise, relax with a book, eat dinner – and as the above image would suggest, go to a concert. I’m more of the outdoor summer series at parks and museums type, but I think an outfit like this would work equally as well at something more Coachella/festival-ish if you’re into that. It’s all about comfort – a soft, relaxed dress and flat sandals do the trick, with a simple crossbody (how cute is this one from Zara? Leather and only $30!) and streamlined gold jewelry for polish (and the fact that I define comfort like that will probably never not drive my family just a little crazy). Plus, the bright, tropical print works perfectly for just about any other function this summer.

Spotted Lounge Pants

Zara top (similar here) | Zara pants (similar here) | Urban Outfitters ring | Vintage clutch (similar here)

It probably seems like I have an endless collection of patterned pants, but I assure you that’s not true (I can dream though…). These I got from Zara during their last blowout sale, but could only get them a size bigger than I needed – it actually turned out okay though, since they’re perfectly breezy and slouchy in this size. The dots are also a cool paint stroke sort of pattern, and I think they look pretty awesome with just a plain black top (and they’re high waisted, so they’re perfect for crop tops! Score!). I’m planning to live in these this summer, and I linked to another cool black and white pair if you’re in need (and you are, trust me).

Side note, my Birkenstock wearing is actually becoming a problem and all my other shoes are probably feeling sad and neglected. These shoes are life changing, and you need them if you don’t already have them.

Double Take

double take 2

Casual: Top // Cuff // Bag // Skirt // Birkenstocks
Chic: Top // Earrings // Clutch // Skirt // Heels

I’m coming back to one of my old series, and kicking it off with two ways to style what’s become one of my spring/summer staples this year (aside from patterned pants) – a bright mini skirt. I have an aggressively yellow one from H&M that I completely adore (but sadly sold out), plus a kelly green and blue bubble skirt (steal of the century from Anthro) – I love pairing them both with simple tees, especially in white and gray, and my trusty Birkenstocks (can you tell it’s an addiction?) for an effortlessly polished but relaxed outfit. But they’re just as easy to dress up, with a flouncy top, streamlined heels and glitzy accessories. If you’re in need of a bright mini, I think this cute and simple jacquard number is pretty much perfect, plus it definitely won’t break the bank.

Floral Statement Pants

pants 1

NY&Co tee // H&M pants (sold out, similar here) // Zara platform sandals (really similar in gold here) // Marc Jacobs pouch // Vintage bracelet

Patterned pants. Something I was hesitant to embrace a few years back, but have come to love and wear a lot. It was love at first sight with this floral pair (sadly they’re no longer available), and they’ve already become one of my most-worn items this season. They’re one of those occasional, weird H&M finds that’s surprisingly high quality. The material is substantial and has fantastic movement, and the oversized patch pockets are trimmed with lime green piping. I tend to wear them with my favorite white tee (and some metallic pink platforms), but also love them paired with a soft pink top and Birks. And – because I can’t gush about them enough – these pants are perfectly high waisted and the legs are super wide, making them unlike any other pair I own.

Blogger Chat: Nathalie of Lifes Files

One of the things I really love about blogging is how it connects you to other people all over the world – I know just about every blogger will say that, but I’ve experienced it firsthand. Nathalie has become one of my best blogging friends, and she’s such a lovely person with an awesome (newly-redone!) blog and an impeccable sense of style. To celebrate her new blog, Lifes Files, I asked Nathalie to answer a few questions so you could all get to know her (and because who doesn’t love Q&As?!).

P.S. Here’s the direct link to Nathalie’s Venice photo diary. For those with severe wanderlust – you’ve been warned.
