Bright Lights, Big City

bigcity1bigcity2bigcity3bigcity4bigcity5

As I said in Friday’s post, I went to New York City for the weekend – and what a weekend it was. I hopped all over Manhattan and probably walked 10 miles, but I saw lots of sights and squeezed in a healthy dose of shopping on the Upper East Side (alright, so it was more like an entire day). Some of my favorite parts of the trip? Going to Mood (just the fact that I’ve stood where Tim Gunn has gives me chills) and grabbing some Marc Jacobs daisy print fabric (yes, I now own the fabric used to make pieces like this), watching New York City at night from the 37th floor of my (gorgeous) hotel, visiting the 789 Madison Avenue Kate Spade flagship store (I’d like to live there), and, last but not least, eating breakfast at Tiffany’s. I’m going back ASAP – until then, I have a boatload of fantastic memories (I might or might not have taken 330 iPhone pictures) to tide me over. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Reflections: Pools

I was flipping through the latest issue of FutureClaw, and I came across an amazing spread of photographs by Kelly Klein, taken from her latest book, Pools: ReflectionsThese photos all embody the essence of summer, n’est-ce pas? Shady trees, blue skies, water as far as the eye can see…I’m beginning to think a trip to the beach is in order. Care to join me?

One Year

oneyear

Today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of sarah kate style (and the 150th post). Going into this one year ago, I had no idea what my blog would become. I certainly don’t have as many followers as other bloggers, but that’s fine. Maybe I will someday, and maybe I won’t – I don’t know the future of sarah kate style, and that’s okay with me. I love having this blog as a creative outlet, and I love meeting other bloggers. That has been such an amazing part of my experience blogging – meeting all kinds of people, reading their blogs, getting a glimpse into their life. I feel so lucky to be a part of it all.

I’ve discovered, though, that blogging isn’t always easy. It’s hard to find time, it’s hard to come up with new ideas, and it’s hard to keep writing when you know you’re just one of millions of other bloggers. The Internet itself can tear you a new one, like when my blog crashed back in January. But in the end, it’s rewarding – I’ve learned new things, discovered great stores, designers and blogs, and refined my own style. Looking back, I can see how I’ve grown and changed in the past year. I haven’t always been very personal on the blog, and I need to work on that. I am so appreciative of all of your support, whether you’ve been reading since last summer or you’re a new follower.

I am so excited for the future of this blog. I feel like it can only get better from here, and I’m looking forward to sharing many more outfits, ideas, collages and recipes with you – and if things work out according to plan, I may be sharing a huge renovation project (or two).

Blogging has been a fantastic experience, and I hope to spend many more years sharing my life with you. xx Sarah

Instagrammed Weekend

instagramweekend

I had a pretty fantastic weekend. Despite the fact that some things didn’t work out according to plan (namely the inclement weather postponing my trip to the museum until Sunday), everything turned out great in the end – fantastic food, lots of time with friends and family, a perfectly beautiful day for visiting a museum and its sculpture garden, and some pretty awesome presents. Granted, some of these Instagrams were taken today (my weekend kind of continued into today, with a snowball and some light shopping), but they all captured just how great my leisurely birthday weekend turned out to be. I’ll see you back here tomorrow, when sarah kate style turns one (!), along with a few surprises.

Spotlight: Honestly YUM

honestlyyum_1

So I’m kind of obsessed with food. And cooking. If I’m not doing anything in particular, you can usually find me in the kitchen. While I love cooking old standbys and experimenting with new combinations, nothing excites me more than trying new recipes. Enter HonestlyYUM, from the creators of Honestly WTF: it’s basically your online guide to all things food. The DIYs make me want to throw a party, and the recipes make me want to spend the whole day in the kitchen. Even if you’re not the biggest chef, check out this site – you might be inspired to try your hand at whipping up something to eat.
