Channeling Audrey

Macy’s Dress (similar here), Ann Marino Shoes via DSW, Vintage Necklace (similar here), Vintage Purse

As mentioned earlier, I celebrated Valentine’s Day (kind of) with brunch last Sunday. I don’t go out to brunch as often as I’d like, so it’s a special occasion – justifying my decision to wear this black lace dress. It reminds me of something that Audrey Hepburn would wear (I actually wore this dress for Halloween – I was, guess who? Audrey), so I topped it off with a strand of pearls (knotted, of course) to complete the look.

P.S. You’ve probably noticed that the site looks different – I was encountering technical difficulties continuously, plus I thought it was a good time for change, so the site was revamped a bit. I made some tiny polishes (changing buttons, fixing permalinks) and bigger changes (editing the ‘about’ page and adding ‘manifesto’). I also set up an RSS feed, so be sure to subscribe!

Valentine

I don’t get to wear this skirt nearly as much as I’d like to, which is sad. I have relatively few pleated skirts and dresses, and I love their swishy silhouette and the romantic vibe they lend to an outfit when paired with a delicate blouse. I particularly like to pair it with this blouse and a strand of pearls for a feminine (and Valentine’s day appropriate) outfit. I may not have any special place to wear this today (I already celebrated the holiday with brunch this past Sunday – outfit pictures to come), but it’s fun to play dress up some days anyway.

Burgundy Stripes

Forever 21 Top (similar here), Forever 21 Jacket (nearly identical here), NY&Co Jeans (similar here), Steve Madden Boots, Vintage Necklace (similar here)

I, like many others, have an obsession with stripes (my preference being black/navy and white horizontal ones). Luckily for my wallet, I’m usually able to convince myself out of buying more by reminding myself that I already have three other navy-and-white striped tops. But, when I ran across this one back in December, it was a different story. For one, these stripes were vertical – something I don’t often run across, but have always loved – and second, they’re burgundy (if you’ve been reading for a while, you know burgundy is by far my favorite color for fall), giving me enough reasons to buy it.

Texturized

Talbot’s Sweater (similar here and here), Urban Outfitters Corduroys, Steve Madden Boots

I picked this sweater up at a Talbot’s Outlet back in December on my way to pick up some cupcakes from a local cupcake shop, and was immediately sold on the price – just $12. I’ve mentioned before that my love of black is growing, so I knew I had to add this sweater to my collection. It’s loose enough to not be itchy, but thick enough to be warm. Plus, I need more texture in my closet, and the huge cable knit down the center fit the bill. I wore it with these buttery-soft corduroys for a contrast in texture.

Navy and Coral

H&M Top (similar here), The Webster for Target Sweater, Forever  21 Skirt (similar here), H&M LeggingsSteve Madden Boots

This is probably the first colorful (read: non-neutral) thing I’ve worn in a long time. This sweater is back from the Webster for Target Collection (part of the Target Shops collection last summer), and I finally got around to wearing it with this H&M sweater top. I’ve always loved pairing coral with navy blue – especially in the springtime, when my go-to outfit is a nautical striped top with coral skinny jeans. It’s also no longer warm enough to wear this skirt (or any skirt, for that matter) with bare legs, as I did here. On that note, I’m becoming increasingly excited for spring – I’ve already begun buying dresses and tops, soon to be featured on the blog.

P.S. Just so you know, I don’t naturally pose like this – it’s all at my photographer’s insistence.
