Burgundy is definitely my favorite color. Some people buy every striped shirt they come across, some people can’t resist a good pair of heels – I, on the other hand, hoard everything burgundy. Shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, jackets, shoes, sweaters – if it’s available in some shade of maroon, I buy it. Naturally, the arrival of fall makes me giddy because of all the burgundy clothes that pop up in stores. Here’s what I’m loving in the deep hue right now.

I always get overly giddy at the arrival of Target’s designer collaborations – as seen here, and here, and here – and 3.1 Phillip Lim is no exception. While the Jason Wu collection will always be my favorite, I’m thrilled by everything this one has to offer. Specifically, the bags. I’m having a really hard time deciding between black and yellow, and the collection doesn’t even hit stores until September 15! Overall, the collection is fantastically well-rounded, including many of this fall’s big trends. I haven’t heard or seen any mention of shoes, which is a shame, because I’d love to get my hands on a pair of the 3.1 patent slippers the models are wearing in the lookbook. Above, I’ve highlighted some of my favorite aspects the collection. Besides the bags, I’ll be grabbing up as many pieces in the floral print as I can find. What’s your favorite look?

And just so you know, on Sunday morning I’ll be standing outside my local Target, waiting for the doors to open.

Simplement Chic

H&M Top, Kohl’s Skirt, Baublebar Necklace, Sandals via DSW (old, similar here), Henri Bendel Ring

I recently took a trip to some gorgeous gardens for a picnic, which was the perfect way to close out the season. This top, which I obsessed over here, came in the mail a little bit ago and I couldn’t be happier with it – it’s amazingly comfortable and it obviously goes with everything. I love pairing it with my new necklace for a pop of color, but I can’t wait to wear it with other neutrals (namely burgundy corduroys and a military jacket) come fall. My favorite aspect of it is its versatility – the graphic makes it a little more special than your average white tee, and it works equally as well with distressed jeans as it does with a floaty floral skirt.

Shirt/Skirt/Shoes/Necklace/Ring/Socks

Since yesterday was the unofficial end of summer, it feels a lot like back-to-school. I can’t wait for fall this year, but the feeling of freedom that leaves with summer always makes me a little reluctant to accept the coming season. I always get over the end-of-summer blues by focusing on all of the new clothes I’ll be wearing soon – fall is my favorite season when it comes to fashion. One pattern that I’ve been considering recently is plaid: it always makes me think of cute (and often not-so-cute) school uniforms. I’ve had a serious aversion to the print ever since a phase in my much younger years when I wore flannel shirts, but my serious obsession with this skirt has made me rethink my prior distaste for it. I’m huge on navy and black once there’s a nip in the air, so I decided to pair a neutral plaid shirt with a short, flirty skirt that gets some edge from a faux-leather trim. Tall gray socks keep the look grounded and cozy, while seriously shiny oxfords make a statement and add some fun. Some classic jewels top off the look.
